Things That Remain the Same

While reading my Bible a few months ago, I came across the verse in Hebrews that says, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8) This is a verse I have heard many times throughout my life and have often overlooked. However, it had more meaning this time. As I took time to ponder this verse throughout the next few months, the Lord really showed me several things.

We all have experienced some kind of change or multiple changes in our lives. These changes could include circumstances that have shifted us from being employed to working from home or even losing that job. Many experience health changes that affect routines and the day-to-day ways of life. When loved ones pass away, we experience a difficult change, and we must adjust to give ourselves time to grieve. Sometimes we can see change coming; other times, change can take us by surprise. Even recently, we have experienced change in our own nation.

As I pondered this verse and considered how Jesus never changes, I began to search the Bible for other things that remain the same. There are a few things I jotted down on notebook paper that remain the same.

God’s grace never changes! II Corinthians 12:9 says, And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…

God’s forgiveness never changes! Psalm 86:5 says, For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. Ephesians 1:7 says, In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

God’s mercy never changes! Psalm 100:5 says, For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

God’s love never changes! Jeremiah 31:3 says, The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Romans 8:38-39 says, For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 5:8 says, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. I John 4:10 says, Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

When change comes, let us determine to remain in our Bibles and cling to these promises. As Christians in an unsteady world, we can be assured we have God’s Truth. We can root our lives in the unfailing stability of God’s Word. His solid and consistent promises are for every Christian at all times. Jesus Christ, my Hope and Salvation, got me through yesterday, and He will get me through today. Rejoice, my friends, in Jesus Christ Who never ever changes!
