Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. – Psalm 27:14
This verse mentions twice that we are to wait on the Lord. This means that we are to pay extra attention to what God is saying to us. We are to wait on Him. Waiting is something with which I have always struggled. Waiting does not come easy for anyone!
No one likes to wait, yet we are always doing just that. We often find ourselves waiting in lines at the store, especially during this time of the year. Even in times of leisure, we can find ourselves waiting, such as waiting in line to ride a rollercoaster.
After getting married in October 2020, my husband and I left for our honeymoon. One of the places we visited was Dollywood in Tennessee. I was so excited because I love riding rollercoasters. Inevitably, there were wait times for each ride. We always looked for the shortest wait time, but some of our favorite rides had long wait times. After riding the same ride over and over again because we did not need to wait long to ride it, the experience just was not as thrilling as it would have been if it were our favorite ride.
My husband eventually asked if we could stand and wait for one of his favorite rides, Fire Rescue. As much as I wanted to ride it, I knew the line was going to be long, and it was going to be at least an hour wait. I did not want to wait, but because this was a ride he loved, I said yes. We waited a long hour and a half to ride, but this ride ended up being my favorite ride in the whole park. Although it would have been much easier to wait in the shorter lines for other rides, I was so glad he convinced me to wait and ride Fire Rescue. It was so much fun and was definitely worth the wait.
Since before my college years, and even now in my married life, I have struggled to wait on God. I have realized throughout the years that waiting on God is mandatory if we want to receive His blessings. The blessings WILL come if we will just be patient and live by God’s timing, not our own. Waiting on God’s timing is always better than choosing the shorter line and missing all the good things God has for us in the longer line. Sure, the shorter line may have a tiny ice cream cone at the end of the wait, but the longer line has a huge tub of ice cream at its end! It has been said that good things come to those who wait. Waiting for the best things may take patience and determination, but stay the course! God is ready to shower us with wonderful blessings and rewards if only we will wait.
