Abundantly Satisfied

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. – Psalm 36:6-8

As I read these verses recently, I could not help but to ponder the phrase …abundantly satisfied… According to Webster’s Dictionary 1828, satisfied means“to gratify wants, wishes, or desires to the full extent; to supply possession or enjoyment till no more is desired.”

In today’s society, people are looking in every direction for satisfaction. They turn to the opposite gender, drugs, alcohol, fame, or fortune. However, they quickly realize that all these temporal things will leave them just wanting more; they are never satisfied.

Psalm 36 says that God preservest us; He keeps us safe and defends us. This passage is also a reminder of His lovingkindness, His steadfast love, and His commitment to us. These promises mean we can trust in Him and can rely on Him fully. However, His “preserving” does not stop there. We can experience His pleasures, and in God, we will want no more. This is the perfect path to finding never-ending, abundant satisfaction in life.

If that realization does not put a Christian on shouting ground, I do not know what will! This promise from God’s Word guarantees we do not need anything this world has to offer. When we decide to abide in the Lord and His love, we will find ourselves always abundantly satisfied!
